What do I mean by &#8220;the little things?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>How about:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Getting an unexpected, happy e-mail from a friend.<\/li>\n<li>Finding out you got the early discount at lunch at your favorite Mexican restaurant even though you didn&#8217;t show up early.<\/li>\n<li>New shoes that fit well immediately.<\/li>\n<li>Sleeping well.<\/li>\n<li>Blue M&#038;Ms, it doesn&#8217;t matter what type.<\/li>\n<li>Realizing the plant the woman at the garden shop told you wouldn&#8217;t survive inside in a pot is now blooming&#8230;two years after you bought it.<\/li>\n<li>Writing well.<\/li>\n<li>Retirement plan balances that actually go up two months in a row when you haven&#8217;t deposited any additional money in the plans.<\/li>\n<li>A comfortable chair in which to sit and good light to read by, oh, and a place to put your mug of tea while you sit and read.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The little joys.<\/p>\n<p>So, if it&#8217;s possible, as they say, to nickel and dime yourself into the poorhouse, is it possible to little joy yourself happy?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Once you get past the bottom two strata on Maslow&#8217;s hierarchy of needs it becomes the little things that bring you joy.
