Lost rage

They killed off a character last night just like they promised they would. Unlike some fans, I’m fine with that. And they killed this character off in a way that made a certain amount of dramatic sense, and will add some tension to our lately to shiny, happy island community. But now we’re going to go back to “a whole new beginning” to learn what happened to the passengers in the tail section of the plane?

WTF?

I am even more convinced by this flashback maneuver that the writers and producers have written themselves into a corner and they don’t have any fucking clue where to go from getting the damn hatch open. When in doubt, go back to something you know, and since they seem to do disoriented strandees really well (hello, season 1), well, I guess we get more of that.

For this I gave up an hour of working on my book? I’ll have to seriously reconsider what I do next week.

I think TV series should have date stamps like any product. They do have a shelf life and all to often the outlive that shelf life. I’m not saying that is true with Lost…because I don’t watch….but I have seen it all to often with other interesting, good, creative TV shows.

But don’t read this…get back to work on your book!

I agree with you totally – they are going back instead of forward. Worse I watched a little of Freddie before Lost started and all I could think was I have seen this same show in so many other shows – at least Lost still tries and maintains a little newness (if that is a word) to it. And at least they got rid of a main character (and a side one apparently) instead of getting rid of one we have never seen before and know nothing about. Thanks for the good post. Keep plugging away on the book.

I could not disagree more vehemently with you. I think that Lost is very carefully mapped out as to the major plot and character arcs. Also, Otherbisi [sorry, betraying my Television Without Pity roots here], I mean, Mister Eko, is by far the most interesting character on the island at this point in time, IMHO. And I’d much rather find how 18 people vanished than watch Locke push that damn button.

Perhaps if the US networks did away with this entirely stupid sweeps system and actually, you know, showed a series from start to finish without multiple-week gaps, then there would be a lot less frustration with a show like Lost which depends on slow progression through little glimpses every week. [Although, if you watch season 1 on DVD over a short time period, you’ll realise that it doesn’t go that slowly overall, but I agree that individual hours can seem to offer little advancement.]

Of course, much as I adore the meandering approach that Lost takes with its development, I wouldn’t mind if they hurried the fuck up with some stuff and brought back some old favourites. I miss Lostzilla and the polar bears of season 1. The show is not the same without their huge, fluffy lethal presences.
