Come undun

I think about a lot of things I don’t talk about here and I’ve been wondering lately why that is.

Is it because I grew up (mostly) in the suburbs and absorbed way too many “middle-class” values? After all polite people don’t discuss certain things (think Wendy Bemish‘s mother’s ever present “cancer” whisper).

Is it because a lot of the folks who comment here I now consider friends and am slightly afraid of revealing allmost of my secrets?

Is it because my brain is too full and I haven’t really been able to think coherently about these things as of yet? I don’t think it’s this last one, either that or my brain’s started to suffer the same problem as my work: so much to do I’m paralyzed, unable to start one thing because they all clamor for attention with equal ferocity.

Things that don’t get discussed here:
• sex
• love
• terrorism
• either of the -inities (femm or masc)
• women
• spirituality
• writing and the nature of it all
• regrets
• dreams and wishes
• money
• depression

Or maybe it’s because these things aren’t worth discussing. I need to think about this some more.

In the meantime, have some Guess Who

Funny, I’ve been thinking virtually the same thing! As this thing (blogging) spreads and more old and indeed new friends come aboard….well I’ve been wondering if it will curtail what it is I choose to write about. I’ve had several conversations with a pal of mine about this. We keep saying the point is “DON’T CENSOR YOURSELF” but this seems to be easier said then done.

    Hope you got some sleep!

    Interesting questions. Some thoughts:

sex, love, women, spirituality, money: these are topics that I don’t openly discuss these in front of strangers. I have plenty of direct email exchanges with people, though. The big epiphany was that everybody in their 30s has some amount of cosmic angst. I’ve often thought about trying a much more anonymous venue to express ideas, but I much prefer discussing with people I whom I share a rapport.

terrorism: it’s not something I dwell on. The patriotic fervor I had after 9/11 evaporated with unraveling of the “facts” justifying the Iraq invasion.

-inities: don’t really think about these much. (Of course, I’m a guy who cooks, lives in a house with three women, yet goes on insane long bicycling adventures… 🙂
