Today was the second time in two weeks that someone has needed something from one of our project people and absolutely. no one. could. find. him. Over lunch someone jokingly suggested that we put a GPS bracelet on his ankle so we’d always know where he is.
This got me to thinking.
Given the reports about how police can’t keep track of registered sex offenders, and the fact that the FDA has already approved the use of subcutaneous computer chips, I’m just waiting for the press release from the Department of Justice that announces a federally mandated GPS program for sex offenders.
Soon, mark my words.
Yet another application for RFID tags 😉
We could just extend that a teensy bit more and have tattooed bar codes under our eyelids (if you haven’t read Jennifer Government yet).
I don’t know much about RFID tags but I was under the impression they were fairly short range. I’ll have to check that out.
And my girlfriend hates you, by the way. She doesn’t know it yet but she does. The “to be read” stack next to the bed just got taller by one book. Thank you for the tip; I’d hadn’t heard of this story.
Kelly Eskridge handles this in her book “Solitaire” by embedding a chip under the skin on the back of the hand, in the fat part by your thumb. Your entire life, including your bank account, is on that chip.
Of course, this posits a government that is smart enough to actually run a computer system. No one ever mentions the open source takeover that will have to happen first 😉
