…that no one has ever sucessfully explained to me why, if she didn’t work outside the home, Louise Jefferson needed a maid?

    Uh – well – first it’s what upper-middle class folks used to have especially back before you graced the planet with your presence (in this form at least.) One of my Aunts had a live-in maid for her family for years, and she didn’t work, though she volunteered like hell.

    Second – re the Jeffersons, and just anybody with a maid – well, if I could afford one and had a big enough place I’d sure have one – daily, if not live in. I’m truly awful with housework, and feel that that’s not a crime, or even a problem, so long as I deal with it somehow. Paying someone else to deal with it is perfectly acceptible. Imho. So that’s it.
